Join the Buffalo DSA Electoral Committee for our monthly meeting! This month we will be reviewing an Endorsement Survey submitted by a chapter member seeking our endorsement for their campaign for the Buffalo City Council. Additionally, we will be hearing a report back from the Electoral Committee leadership's meeting with the NYC DSA Electoral Working Group as well as discussing how the committee can support ETOC which was voted on as a Chapter priority. This meeting will also serve as a meeting for the chapter SIO Subcommittee! This is not a meeting where we will vote on sending our endorsement up to the General Body, that vote will occur in November prior to the November General Body Meeting* *Please note that any chapter member interested in voting within the Electoral Committee to send the endorsement up to the General Body that has not attended an electoral committee meeting this term (ie since our June 2026 meeting) needs to be in attendance this month (10/22) in order to hold voting rights at our next meeting in November as per the Chapter Bylaws revised at our 2026 Chapter Convention. Buffalo DSA’s Healthcare Committee has organized since before the pandemic and after to combat private capital in healthcare as part of an overall socialist program. We see single-payer healthcare legislation on the state level as a local change in the political landscape which could force capital’s hand on federal Medicare for All and eventual nationalization. Please join us for these once-monthly Tuesday night meetings in which we educate and plan efforts to build a class conscious base in support of universal healthcare and socialist politics. Socialists all over Buffalo are in unions and organizing their workplaces, and part of our mission is to connect them with each other, as well as educational resources, and support for local labor fights.

Learn about the proposed Social Housing Law (A6265/S5674) that would establish a public authority to increase the supply of permanently affordable housing in the state through the acquisition of land and renovation or rehabilitation of existing real property, and through the construction of new, permanently affordable housing. Presentation followed by breakout visioning sessions where local leaders and community members can collaborate to discuss what housing in WNY can and should look like in the future with a discussion focused on the derelict building and surrounding lot at 71 Niagara St. Dinner will be provided - catered by Nine & Night Thai Cuisine. The Buffalo DSA Labor Committee invites you to our reading group on US history (from the 1840s through 2000s) told through the story of labor. Over five sessions we will be discussing and analyzing US labor history; each meeting will be anchored by readings from Erik Loomis’ book “A History of America in Ten Strikes”. The book is divided into 10 stories, each recounting ten critical worker strikes in US Labor history. Each session will be facilitated by one of the reading group organizers along with a co-facilitator.  If you’re new to labor organizing, curious about labor history, or interested in gaining a firmer grasp on how the struggles of the past continue to be tied to the present moment and labor struggles, this book and/or reading group will be a great fit for you.  We have given out all of our copies of the book, but it is available for borrowing through the Buffalo Public Library.
